English-language guide for applying for a French residency permit in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Who Is This Service For?

This online service is intended for British citizens and their family members (spouse, children, and parents), whether they hold British nationality or are third-country nationals residing in France before the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

When Will a Residence Permit Be Mandatory?

Having a residence permit will be mandatory as of October 31, 2020, for all individuals over the age of 18. Until this date, your rights concerning residency, employment, and social rights will continue.

  • You will have a six-month period from the UK’s withdrawal date (i.e., until April 30, 2020) to request a residence permit.

  • Residence permits obtained before the UK’s withdrawal from the EU will remain valid for one year. They will need to be exchanged during this period, including permanent residence permits.

How to Prepare Your Online Residence Permit Request

  • The photographed or scanned documents must be in one of the following formats: .pdf, .png, .jpeg, or .jpg.
  • Each document sent as proof must have a different name.
  • The maximum size of each file cannot exceed 5 MB.

  2. Schedule an Appointment: Once your file has been processed, you will receive an email to schedule an appointment at the prefecture for fingerprinting, a photo, and proof of fee payment.
  3. Receive Your Residence Permit: Your residence permit will be sent to your home. If you encounter any issues with the procedure, you can contact:
